Oiling the Bernina 830/820
If you would like to download the file and print it...Please click here
It is very important that YOU, the new owner, know how to correctly oil your Bernina 830/820 sewing machine.
Many tension problems can be avoided if the hook system receives the much needed oil on a regular bases. I know your asking me "what is on a regular bases", and I would say every three full bobbins I would give it a drop of oil.
Remember, we are sewing and embroidering faster then everyone else on the market.
Important!
-
Use ONLY the oil provided with your new sewing machine. Do not use the "other" oil from your previous Bernina or something you buy someplace else!!
- Follow the direction precisely and your machine will be thankful to you.
Let's start!
- I recommend you to take the needle out of the machine, before you start oiling your Bernina. It takes ten seconds to take that needle out... so just do it.
- Open your bobbin case door. The bobbin case is swinging out.

- Take your bobbin out of the hook.

- Take a look at the picture below. The red arrow is pointing at the round silver screw. Do NOT proceed until you see that screw!

- Against everything you ever learned about how to turn you handwheel on a sewing machine, grab your handwheel and turn it AWAY from you. You see it in the first picture below. Turn it until the screw with the red arrow is about at 1 clock. You will hear a clicking noise while you do this, which is perfectly normal.

- Now turn the handwheel in the "normal" direction like you see in the picture below. As you start turning, the hook will start to swing into the machine. Stop turning when the hook is in about an angle of 30 degrees like you see it in the second picture. It will make it much easier for you to oil!!

- The arrow is pointing exactly where you need to put a drop of oil.

- DO NOT take that bottle of oil and put it directly on the spot, you would put too much oil on there. Take a look at the picture below. Grab your stylus (the one you touch the screen) and put a drop of oil at the tip, like you see it in the picture.

- Now take the stylist to the hook and touch the spot I described in point 7 before.

- Please read all the way to the end now! We are not done...yet!
Do not insert a bobbin now!! But rather lift up your bobbin cover slowly half way up, until the machine starts to turn the hook in into the correct position and swing it back into the machine.

- Now re-open the bobbin case door, load a bobbin and insert the needle.
- You have successfully oiled your Bernina 830/820.
