Twister or Lil’ Twister

A fun new way to make pinwheel blocks.  Rather than cutting individual pinwheel pieces to sew together, the squares are sewn together and the pinwheels are cut using the template.  These templates are designed for the popular 5” and 10” precut fabric packs but the precuts are certainly not necessary.  Cut your own squares if you don’t find a package that you like.

Grand Central

This is a fabulous quilt to use one of those large focus print fabrics that you hate to cut up.  Also good practice to perfect those “pinwheel”  blocks that can be tricky.   The pattern is wonderful on it’s own.  On my class sample I added a little pizzazz by appliquéing additional fussy cuts of the original fabric in different parts of the quilt.  This is a two day class.

Twinkle

Wow!  What can you do with all those collected fabrics from a particular designer  (I used mostly Kaffe Fasset fabrics) or  what a wonderful quilt to use up some of those fabric stashes out there that some of you have been hoarding.  Or you could actually put together a very well planned quilt using several different fabrics using specific colors. Or all batiks or reproduction prints;  get my drift?  Almost any fabric will do, as long, as you, the creator like it.   A fun quilt that will go together quickly.

Beginning Needleturn Appliqué

Tea Rose Pillow

One of our customers came up with this pattern and asked if we could teach a class.  Well, your wish is our command!  The designer of this sweet 12" x 22" pillow is reworking the pattern just for us!  Join Leslie in learning the needleturn method of hand appliqué, stems using bias bars and perfect (no kidding!) circles.  We will start from scratch so beginners are welcome as is anyone who would like to brush up on their appliqué skills.

Tampa

Sat. Sept. 25                            10:00-4:00       $35

'Warm Wishes' Part I

Hand Needleturn Appliqué

Leslie is introducing you to another great pattern that has stood the test of time, 'Warm Wishes' by Jo Morton.  This would be a great second hand needleturn appliqué class as we will be using vinyl overlays and freezer paper templates.  However, a highly motivated beginner would find success here as would anyone who is looking to fine tune their appliqué skills.  We will be focusing on stems using bias bars, perfect circles, sharp points and a continuous border.

***Note about this pattern:  We will be using a pattern in one of Jo Morton's books where our appliqué block is in the center of a quilt and is surrounded by miniature pieced blocks.  You may take just this appliqué part of the project.  However, if you choose to finish the quilt with the sawtooth borders and the pieced blocks, you are welcome to take the 'Warm Wishes Miniature Piecing' class described below at a $10 discount.  Contact Leslie if you have any questions.

Tampa

Sat. Oct. 30                             10:00-4:00       $35

'Warm Wishes' Part 2

Miniature Piecing

Leslie has had her eye on this pattern from Jo Morton for a while and finally decided it was time to make it.  While this pattern would make a wonderful hand-piecing opportunity, we will be using our trusty sewing machines! Pick out a collection of dark/mediums and lights and you will be set!  We will be working on the small pieced blocks and the sawtooth borders in this class.

***Note about this pattern:  You will notice that there is an appliqué block in the center of this quilt and appliqué on the borders as well.  You could easily leave the appliqué out of the mix and just do a bunch of the sweet little 4" blocks in the center if appliqué is not your thing.  However, if you do want to try hand appliqué or are just looking for a fun block to stitch, join us for the Hand Needleturn Appliqué class described above.  If you take both classes, you will get a $10 discount on the 'Warm Wishes' Miniature Piecing class.  Contact Leslie if you have any questions.

Tampa

Sat. Dec. 4                   10:00-4:00       $35 (or $25 if you have also taken the Hand Needlturn Appliqué class described above)

'Missouri Crossing' - an Ocean Waves Christmas (or not) quilt.

Every year I tell myself that this is the year I will make a Christmas quilt and have it ready for the holidays.  Well, over the years I have managed a few wall-hangings but never the real quilt!  This year is different!  I found this Ocean Waves pattern in Jo Morton's new book and I was hooked!  If Christmas is not your thing, how about a fall or Halloween quilt, a bright primary quilt for a child or a batik beauty in watery batiks?  This pattern would look great in any of these combinations and more!  We will be working with large and small triangles and will have fun using lots of different fabrics!

Brandon

Sat. Nov.27                             10:00-4:00       $35

Stepping Stones

Leslie has been a fan of Judy Niemeyer's paper-pieced quilt patterns for years and was intrigued by this 52" x 60" beauty!  She used her favorite batiks but this quilt can be made from any collection of 2 1/2" strips.  Have you seen the rolls of strips already precut for you in the store called 'Bali Pops'?  This is a perfect time to try some or you can cut strips from your own fabrics.  The more fabrics, the better for this easy to piece quilt!
